Counselling and Psychotherapy in Maldon, Essex with Anne Vinton

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, BPC

I am based in Maldon, Essex and have experience in face-to face, open-ended work (where counselling continues for as long as it is useful and helpful), with individuals on a weekly basis and also on a more frequent basis – two or three sessions per week – as appropriate.

I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling.

I also have extensive experience of short term (or solution focussed) work over six sessions.

After some life changing events some thirty years ago I realised there are simply not enough people available to offer an unbiased, non-judgemental ear.

This is what started my journey and my training initially as a psychodynamic counsellor followed by psychoanalytic psychotherapy training.

I have a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (Chelmsford Counselling Foundation 2003) and a Post-graduate diploma in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (WPF Therapy London 2012).

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Life is rarely easy. There are no promises that it will be a smooth journey for any of us.

At times you may find life difficult to cope with and reach out for help. Counselling or psychotherapy may be the answer. But what is counselling and psychotherapy? The two are essentially the same however a psychotherapist has undertaken a longer and more rigorous training period and will be able to help you delve deeper in to the unconscious. For example:

  • it is about empowering yourself to make the changes in your life that you wish to make
  • it gives you an opportunity to make sense of your individual circumstances
  • it can help you to identify the choices for change
  • your counsellor/psychotherapist will support you during your process of change
  • the overall aim being to leave you better equipped to cope in the future

Psychodynamic counselling is about looking under the surface bringing the unconscious material to consciousness. This enables us to grow, develop and make the changes we want to make.

I have a wide range of experience working with many different client groups including:

  • depression
  • stress
  • anxiety
  • survivors of sexual abuse
  • cancer patients and their families
  • work-related stress and anxiety
  • identity problems
  • sexuality
  • self-esteem
  • trauma

Counselling or psychotherapy is a bit like starting a journey without knowing exactly where you are going.  Your counsellor/psychotherapist can help you get to where you want to be but without giving you directions.  You will know when you have arrived.  To misquote the lyrics of a favourite song of mine, it’s a journey we don’t have a map for.

If you feel you would like to meet with me before committing to working with me I offer a 25 minute meeting, free of charge, to answer any questions you may have. This will not be a therapy session but an opportunity to see how comfortable you feel talking to me.

I will answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process and we can discuss practical issues such as fees and timings of appointments.

Please contact me to make an appointment or ask a question. I will reply to you as soon as I can.
